The Husbands' Club > All Things Beer

One of the things that keeps cropping up in the introductions thread is an interest in brewing--and consuming--beer.

I've brewed a few batches in my time, but the kit has been gathering dust in the basement since my son was born, seventeen months ago. Maybe this thread will inspire me to clean it up and throw a batch together.

Today was a great day. Today, at Capital Ale House in Fredericksburg, VA, I drank my first bottle of Bell's Oberon since last summer. Then, our very helpful server told me where I could find some to bring home with me (sadly, Bells does not distribute to Rhode Island). After dinner, we stopped by Kybecca and bought a case.

So how about it: favorite summer beers, and why. Oberon has been my favorite since I spent my first summer in Ann Arbor. It's a wheat ale that's smooth and just a little bit citrus-y. Perfect for the summer.

I'm so not in your guy's league. I enjoy the cold refreshing tast of what ever is on sale? No for real. I like a local brew in Salt Lake City called Devistator. It's a dark ale that is smooooth and strong in comparison to Utah beer. By law it must be 3.2% acholo by volume.

With a name like Devastator, it must be good.

I've only had "Utah beer" once. I was camping, and it was the middle of summer. I actually found it quite refreshing.

Home brewers wanted!

As I mentioned on the blog, I'm looking for home brewers to interview for a piece in Military Spouse magazine. If you, or someone you know, enjoys this delicious (and sometimes maddening) pastime, email me at thomas(dot)litchford(at)gmail(dot)com.

Anybody use growlers at their local brewpubs? I feel like I'm coming late to this party. I just bought my first one at Coddington's here in RI. I brought home some of their ESB, and it was awesome. They knock a buck off the price when you bring it back, too.
