The Husbands' Club > EFMP
Mic,
Based on my limited reading on the Exceptional Family Member Program, it looks like they will definitely take your child's needs into account when considering your wife for an accompanied overseas tour. But they won't automatically exclude your wife from consideration just because of your child's needs. I found this paragraph on the Navy's Exceptional Family Member Program website:
Sailors may be reluctant to enroll because of misconceptions that EFMP enrollment may limit assignments and career advancement, or preclude family members from accompanying sponsors on overseas tours. These negative perceptions are not supported by fact. Sailors enrolled in the EFMP have always received equal consideration for accompanied assignments and for promotions.
That looks like good news to me. Hope it helps.

I am a father of an autistic child. my wife and i just got all the info on the program today and i was wondering if any one else is in the same situation as us. specifically the part about the service member making chief. the program says that service members with autistic children cannot be deployed over seas. but to make chief requires overseas leadership experience. has anyone found or heard of a way around this? my wife has her heart set on making master chief. any help or info will be greatly appreciated. thank you.
